Sunsites Information

Sunsites, Arizona is nestled between the Chiricahua's and Dragoon Mountains, all of which is located in Cochise County. The average valley elevation is between 4000' to 4500' which offers a year round temperate climate. The area has flat and rolling high desert grasslands covered with mesquite, yuccas and other native vegetation until you reach the foothills where the oaks and junipers start. Then on into the mountains with running streams, towering pines and winter snows.

Great Location

Located just minutes away from Sunsites is Kartchner Caverns State Park, one of the world’s top ten caverns, drawing as many as 200,000 visitors annually. In addition to touring these beautiful caverns, enjoy hiking and camping at many of the campsites available within this park.


The Sunsites area borders Forest Service Land to the west, encompassing the Apache mountain hideout “Cochise Stronghold” with its campgrounds and trails leading up over the mountain pass to the “Western Stronghold”, where the great chief Cochise signed a treaty of peace with General O.O Howard in 1874.


Across the valley to the east lie the Chiricahua Mountains, which many say surpass Bryce Canyon in beauty and interest. The National Monument’s trails and facilities were developed with the help of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in the 1930’s, and offer visitors many days worth of exploring and endless birding.


The entire valley is a bird-watchers paradise. Audubon has stated that the Southeastern corner of Arizona has the best birding in the United States. From the Bald Eagle and great Blue Heron to the Elegant Trogon and Magnificent Hummingbird, the variety is astounding.
